Karma Yoga is the yoga of being in tune with the Supreme Absolute through activity, where the results of one’s actions are consecrated totally to the Divine.
Karma Yoga lays emphasis on selfless action and service. The underlying message of Karma Yoga is very clear- humans must always work in harmony with the great power that controls and runs the universe. Karma yoga (also known as Buddhi Yoga) or the “discipline of action” is based on the teachings of the Bhagavad Gita, a sacred Sanskrit scripture of Hinduism. Karma means to do. Karma refers to the universal principle of cause and effect. It is the path of selfless action. This is for the people who are outgoing. The highest example of this would be Mother Theresa. Karma yoga is, therefore, the action or activity of a perfected person, of an enlightened person. And yet, the steps towards this perfection are also regarded, by courtesy as Karma yoga. Otherwise, Karma yoga is not what we do. The principle of karma yoga is that what we experience today is created by our actions in the past. Karma Yoga is a path of devotion to the work. One looses his identity while working, only selfless work remains. This state is very difficult to achieve. It is simply any work done with Divine ideation and with real love for the Supreme Being and Its Creation.
Karma Yoga should not be confused with the law of karma (cause and effect). Karma Yoga is a method for ensuring the actions we take cause good karmic effects.
