Indians: don’t you hate it when foreigners treat our country like an exotic theme park?
I’m talking about westerners and other foreigners who develop their educated opinions about India without so much bothering to get a perspective from real Indians. Our identity is not about magic and superstition, snake-charmers, cows, Yoga & Kama Sutra, curries, ingedients that the tourism industry tries to sell abroad as India’s “image”. I strongly object to this dumb caricature parade; India’s identity is about her people and the unique diversity. It’s a melting pot of cultures and civilizations. So if a foreigner doesn’t address me according to these characteristics, I refuse to be another source-point for his awareness on the “theme park”. I’ll never again tolerate it in future. That’s about me. I hope more Indians feel same way.
