Bikram Yoga Symptoms

bikram yoga symptoms
Why do my hands cramp when I become overheated?

I’ve been in a Sweat Lodge about 15 times, and twice, my hands cramped shut. I’ve recently started Bikram Yoga, and I’ve experienced the same symptoms. There is no pain at all, and it doesn’t feel bad anywhere else, and it doesn’t scare me. The cramps go away anywhere between 10-20 minutes. I can’t pinpoint what causes this – I am very hydrated, drinking water and Gatorade-types of drinks as well. So, I just want to make sure I’m not overlooking something that could be dangerous.
The doctor mentioned something about calcium depleting… I’m wondering if this could be a precursor to something bad (stroke?)

Yeah, cramping anywhere in the body is from lack of potassium, calcium and magnesium. Try eating bananas for potassium, dairy for calcium and perhaps endura or another type of supplements that contain magnesium, such as muscle-eze. http://www.bioceuticals.com.au/product.aspx?function=displayproduct&productid=104. It’s also good that you saw your doctor.

Bikram Choudhury wrote BIKRAM'S BEGINNING YOGA CLASS in 1978 with the intention of popularizing his version of hatha yoga in the west. Practiced at 105 degrees temperature with 60% humidity, Bikram yoga involves manipulating blood flow in the body by creating a tourniquet effect through various postures, which in turn affects the organs, muscles, and immune system. Many years following its initial publication, this guide still serves as a clear introduction to the basics of the major asanas and pranayama (deep breathing). Bikram presents the information in a simple yet conversational tone, divided into clearly delineated chapters, and including useful photographs for each posture, making this the ideal guide for a beginner's use.
